Our History

In 1979, American Miso Company was founded with the mission of producing traditional handmade miso in the United States. Great Eastern Sun Trading Company was established in 1981 for the purpose of distributing both American Miso Company's Miso Master® organic handmade miso paste and healthy, traditional imported Asian and globally-inspired ingredients that are vitally important to a natural foods diet.

Miso Master® organic miso paste varieties are produced by traditional Japanese methods and handmade koji. Our miso is allowed to ferment naturally without the use of yeast accelerants or preservatives used by many commercial miso makers. Our other brands, Emerald Cove® dried edible seaweed, Emperor's Kitchen® globally-inspired pantry staples, HealthSavor® miso-infused condiments, Organic Planet® asian-style noodles, Sushi Sonic® real wasabi powder, Haiku® Organic Japanese Teas and Sweet Cloud® brown rice sweeteners contribute to our mission of bringing only the best natural foods and condiments to market.
