Kukicha Twig Tea, Organic (Loose Leaf)
Kukicha Twig Tea, Organic (Loose Leaf)
During the fall in the Uji district, traditional center of the Japanese tea industry, tea farmers turn to the harvest of tea twigs for Kukicha, the “peasant’s drink”, so-called because farmers drank it after selling the leaves as a cash crop. The farmers carefully select 40% medium twigs aged 3 years, 40% thick twigs aged 10 years, and 20% thin twigs and leaves aged 1 year, before gently roasting each variety separately to bring out its rich flavor. Because caffeine is concentrated in the leaves, twig tea is very mild and can be drunk even at night. Try out Haiku® Organic Japanese Kukicha Twig Tea and you will understand why true connoisseurs of Japanese twig tea will drink nothing else.
Prepare Hot: Bring one cup of cold water to a boil. Steep the desired amount of tea for five minutes or until the desired strength is achieved. Brew as much or as little as you like with our convenient resealable bag.
Prepare Cold*: Pour one cup of cold water over tea leaves and steep in the refrigerator overnight. Cold brewing reduces caffeine content and leaves a smooth, less bitter aftertaste.
* When prepare cold, caffeine content and bitterness are both reduced.
